During the past week we’ve discussed a number of great links; on Google+, Twitter, Facebook and so on. Here are a few of my favourites.
- More Volume = More Strength : Interesting research in the Journal of Strength and Conditioning Research (great summary here), looking at training volume. Although it was only a small study (and focused on beginner athletes – it’d be great to see this repeated with advanced lifters), it indicated that there may indeed be a connection between training volume and strength gains.
- Shoes for Barefoot Running : Remember the brief discussion on Workout Clothing? A few new ones to add to the list – clothing that helps you maintain optimal body temperature, fabric that uses an athlete’s sweat to activate a built-in cooling system and ‘shoes‘ for barefoot running. Interesting combination.
- Britain’s Oldest Female Triathlete : Nice piece on Eddie Brocklesby, 70. A triathlete who certainly has what it takes.
- Bioengineers Develop New Approach to Regenerate Back Discs :
According to Duke University scientists, cell therapies may stop or reverse the pain and disability of degenerative disc disease and the loss of material between vertebrae.
Details here.
We also noted some fantastic work on genome editing, very promising research into stem-cell implantation restoring sight to the blind and a whole lot more. Join the discussion in the Straight to the Bar Community on Google+.
