Welcome to Straight to the Bar
If you’ve just joined us, welcome. Here you’ll find everything that grunts, groans and ticks in the world of strength training. In short, this site is the home of all things strength.
Incidentally, this site’s been helping people become fitter, healthier and stronger since January 2004. If you’ve just joined us, I highly recommend subscribing to the weekly Strength & Fitness Newsletter (part of the Strength Kit), which contains details of new posts on the site, freshly-minted video demonstrations & tutorials, details of upcoming Gymchats and a whole lot more.
And yes, it’s absolutely free.
To help get you started, here are a few of our most recent posts. And if you want to dive in to a particular area. check out the ‘Start Here‘ page above. Enjoy.

Fitness Reading/Listening For The Week : ‘Brain Food: The Surprising Science of Eating for Cognitive Power’ (by Dr Lisa Mosconi)
Dr Lisa Mosconi’s ‘Brain Food: The Surprising Science of Eating for Cognitive Power’ is a wonderful look at the area of neuronutrition, or nutrition for the brain. Both for the prevention (or harm reduction) of disease, and for improved cognitive abilities in general.
Very interesting area.

The Vera Ring (Smart Ring)
I always love the point in any technology where several companies compete for market share (I suspect Apple’s rumoured upcoming entrance has something to do with it in this case) – more features, lower prices. The Vera Ring is a recent entrant to the Smart Ring space, with a clear focus on the health-tracking side of things.

I STRETCHED One Side After EVERY SET For 10 Days (pigmie – @focusedlucas)
Do you stretch before or after your workouts, or not at all? How about during? Lucas shows what can happen in this last option – stretching between sets.

Fitness Reading/Listening For The Week : ‘How We Age : The Science of Longevity’ (by Coleen T. Murphy)
Coleen T. Murphy’s ‘How We Age : The Science of Longevity’ is a fascinating look at both the ‘How’ and ‘Why’ of this intriguing area.
Love it.

C-Infinity (Virtual Reality Station)
The C-Infinity is a VR gaming rig with a clear focus on the gaming side of things. Personally I’d lean slightly more to the ‘fitness games’ side, with more of an emphasis on the movement aspect.

The NEW ROGUE Functional Trainer Rack (Garage Gym Reviews – @garagegymreview)
Wouldn’t mind one myself (and yes I agree about the weight option – particularly if it includes a belt squat device).

Fitness Reading/Listening For The Week : ‘Evolve Your Brain: The Science of Changing Your Mind’ (by Joe Dispenza)
Joe Dispenza’s ‘Evolve Your Brain: The Science of Changing Your Mind’ is an exploration of neuroplasticity, notably put to work in an injury recovery context.
Interesting.

Sirius (AR Ski Goggles)
Recently we looked at Minimis Glass – AR glasses with a focus on fitness. This time we’re checking out the Sirius, a pair of AR ski goggles with inbuilt navigation and communication functionality. Interesting combination.
