During the past week we’ve discussed a number of great links; on Google+, Twitter, the Forums and so on. Here are a few of my favourites.
- Brain Injury Device Planned For Hospitals : We’ve been discussing brain injuries quite a bit recently, particularly over on the Google+ Community pages. Extremely promising is the plan by Addenbrooke’s Hospital and the University of Cambridge to create a bedside ‘brain imaging‘ device for use in hospitals.
- Nike Tech Accelerator for Fitness & Health Startups : This is a very interesting move : Nike jumps into ‘tech incubation‘ with its Nike+ Accelerator, helping to launch various health & fitness startups. Should be many more fitness devices on the market over the next few years.
- The Medicines Patent Pool : Ellen ‘t Hoen takes a great look at one approach to the world of medical patents, the Medicines Patent Pool. Nice one.
- DNA Mapping for Cancer Patients : This is certainly a step in the right direction – genetic mapping for 100,000 patients with cancer and rare diseases. Good stuff.
- Map the Pounds of Bacteria Living on Your Body : Finally, genetic mapping of a slightly different kind : studying the huge mass of bacteria that’s a constant part of you. It may be surprising to hear that there’s so much of it in fact (a couple of kilos), that it’s sometimes thought of as an ‘organ‘.
NB : to see all of these as they appear (and to share your own thoughts on things), the simplest way is to follow me on Google+. You’ll see these, and a whole lot more.
