During the past week we’ve discussed a number of great links; on Google+, Twitter, the Daily ‘Paper’ and so on. Here are a few of my favourites.
- Gene therapy for Motor Neurone Disease : Treating a variant of MND by silencing a faulty gene and re-inserting a missing one? Clinical trials begin late next year.
- An Eye Test for Detect Alzheimer’s : Early detection of Alzheimer’s via an eye test? Yep.
- Human GI Cells Retrained to Produce Insulin : A very interesting approach to diabetes management – encouraging specific cells to begin producing insulin.
- A 3D Printed Cast That Can Heal Bones 40-80% Faster : Making it possible to use Low-Intensity, Pulsed Ultrasound (LIPUS) techniques for healing broken bones, The Osteoid. A custom, 3D-printed cast.
- Controlling Wearables With Your Thoughts : The original pairing is the Neurosky EEG biosensor with Google Glass, though the potential is obviously far beyond that. Fantastic.
We also talked about ‘Wearable Software’, 3D-printed splints for arthritis sufferers and a whole lot more. Keep up with the World of Health & Fitness in the Straight to the Bar Community on Google+.
