Thanks again to everyone who watched and joined in the discussion Gymchat 248 – Establishing Standards for Strength & Progressions [with Personal Trainers (and Strength Athletes) Brian Tabor and Josh Hewett] – much appreciated. If you haven’t seen it yet (or simply want to go over a particular point again), here’s the entire video.
It was a fantastic discussion. Josh and Brian discussed Brian’s fitness background, definition and use of the term ‘strength standards‘, progressing from simple movements to more complex ones, examples of fundamental exercises, being ‘strong enough‘ to progress, individual vs group standards, use of milestones in goal-setting, injury prevention, encouraging coaches to define their own strength standards, things to measure and to keep track of, mobility and stability; and a whole lot more. If you’re ready to Establish Standards in Your Own Training (or that of your clients), make sure you watch this one.
Resources
There were several great resources mentioned during the discussion, notably the book Switch by Chip and Dan Heath. And if you’d like to discuss any of these topics with Brian directly, you’ll find him at :
