Looking for a way to switch up your leg workouts – while still keeping them focused on all the beauty that is the squat? Here are just a few of the squat variations we’ve looked at over the years :

- Full Range Zercher Squatting
Max demonstrates the lift started by Strongman Ed Zercher, the Zercher Squat. Good stuff.
- Stair Squat Jumps
My favourite bodyweight squat variation (and one of the toughest – try a few sets) – the Stair Squat Jump.
- The Hack Squat
Although the machine version is well known, the original barbell variety is far less common. Pity, as it’s an incredibly simple, effective exercise. Good fun.
- Pistol Progressions
Finally, the One-Legged or Pistol Squat. John explains the progression below; and once you’ve mastered the basics, there are many great ways to add resistance.
